From a measurement of wavelength dependent R/T characteristics of coatings on substrates such as glass, plastic foils or metal sheets, parameters such as film thickness (10nm-50µm), moisture concentration, sheet resistance, color and index of refraction can be determined.

A partial pressure measurement of gases such as oxygen (O2), carbon monoxide (CO), carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4), acetylene (C2H2), ethylene (C2H4) and ethane (C2H6), as well as a simultaneous determination of temperature and moisture content, are all extremely valuable for process control. A spectral analysis of liquids and solids can be used to determine the proper dosage as well as allowing for an evaluation on whether all the correct ingredients are found in the sample.
